Project Description
As a result of Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) 2005 re-stationing actions, approximately
297 additional technical laboratory and administrative personnel and additional
animals and species are to be housed at the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research
at Ft. Sam Houston, TX. As a component of approved Base Realignment and Closure
(BRAC) recommendations, the Joint Center of Excellence for Battlefield Health and
Trauma Research (BHT) is being established by the relocation of Army, Navy and Air
Force medical and dental research organizations. This project will construct a new
biomedical research building with laboratory, vivarium, and vivarium support facilities.
The new research building will be connected via underground corridor to the existing
USAISR facility. The project will also provide alteration, remodeling, and repair
of existing USAISR facilities to accommodate the requirements of the BHT.
